Motorsport knowledge

Seacon's Tony Simpson has been passionate about motorsport since he was 8 years old. Tony started out as a spectator at the Lombard RAC Rally watching such stars as Pentti Airikkala.

Tony became involved with building rally and race cars with friends, and was soon looking for a career. His family involvement with the transport industry and his interest in motorsport from on-event management to driving soon helped him become involved with solving logistical problems with small suppliers based in the UK and Australia.

Tony has competed at clubman level rallying running his own car, before returning to where he was first a pupil to drive for the largest competing rally school team in the UK rallyschool.co.uk.

Further solid results enhanced his reputation and in 2002 when he signed to drive for Volkswagen UK’s rally program run by Volkswagen Racing. He drove a VW Polo Gti in Volkswagen’s own Polo Challenge series which ran along side the British Rally Championships.

Tony was also one of the 24 drivers at the very first BRC Live project run by the BRC organising team in order to raise the profile of the sport.

At the end of 2002 Volkswagen UK awarded him for his service to the brand for raising sponsor and company profiles due to his continued work with the media.

Motorsport Logistics Background

Tony continues “I had been buying parts from people such as Ian Harwood Competition Cars and Equipment (based on the Wirral Merseyside) and it gave me the idea of offering consolidation services to overseas buys who for example may buy a engine off Ian and quick racks from other suppliers based around the UK.

The very early days I hired vans myself and swept the suppliers around the country for our overseas clients before returning to my warehouse where my brother would build cases to ensure both security and safety of not just any freight but those parts of a fellow competitor, all be it across the other side of the world but still in a similar situation that I have been in while waiting for parts”.

“One of the most critical movements I was involved in was for Valvaline Oils who supplied the Ford World Rally Team run by M-sport in Cumbria we had a consignment which need to be with the team on the Network Q Rally of Great Britain, we had 36 hours from the vessel arriving to get the consignment to either to Rally HQ or to Cumbria. We had the consignment over to Cumbria in 24 hours. I took a great deal of satisfaction from solving this mini crisis due to the fact I followed the event spectating and every time I seen Escort WRC car I had played my little part”

“We also became involved with helping BAT Motorsport of Liverpool set up a reliable courier service for their domestic client base. We provided a cost effective and recognised supply name to them “
